BIOGRAPHY

Philip Hoorne was born on 27th November 1964, which started out as a sunny day. However, once little Philip had entered the world, the sun crept behind the clouds and an almighty wintry thunderstorm broke loose. The person involved has always denied any direct link between his delivery and the fitful meteorological circumstances surrounding his date of birth.

Since February 2001 he has been sending poems to literary magazines. This soon led to his debut in Tzum, after which publications soon followed in Nymph, De Brakke Hond, Bunker Hill, Lava, Rottend Staal, Krakatau, Meander, De Houten Gong and Vlaanderen, plus awards of various modest poetry prizes.

In November 2002 his first poetry volume appeared with 521 publishers, entitled Niets met jou (Nothing With You), the first issue in the prestigious Sandwich series edited by poet laureate Gerrit Komrij. His debut was presented during the Author & Book days (Trouw Schrijvers & Boekendagen) in Amsterdam's Beurs van Berlage. One week later, in Hoorne's hometown of Wevelgem, this debut was let loose among his fellow Belgians, to great acclaim.

Dedicated fans of this Flemish poet say the successor to Niets met jou shouldn't and won't be far off.
