BIOGRAPHY

Poet and (song)writer Jan Boerstoel was born on 3rd November 1944 and lives and works in Amsterdam. He studied Dutch and linguistics in Amsterdam and became a fulltime (song)writer. From 1969 onwards he wrote (song)texts for a great number of comedians, among them Karin Bloemen (for which he received the Annie M.G. Schmidtprijs 1996), Cabaret Don Quishocking, Jenny Arean, Adèle Bloemendaal, Martine Bijl, Rients Gratama and Youp van 't Hek. He also worked for radio and TV, amongst others for VARA school radio programmes, collaborated on Teleac's De Taalstraat and contributed to broadcasts of Kinderen voor Kinderen. From 1984 till 1988 Boerstoel wrote column-poems in the newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, a selection of which appeared in Veel werk (Lots of stuff) and Altijd het niemandsdier (Eternal nowhere creature) He contributes to e.g. Randschrift and De Tweede Ronde.
